Some objects will sink to the bottom of the water. Example : stone, key, coin, metal spoon, magnet .............. Some objects will float at the top of the water. Example : ping pong ball , pencil, balloon, straw, cork ........
Objects that are heavier than the same amount of water will sink. Things that are lighter than the same amount of water will float. If you push an empty bottle under water, you push a lot of water out of the way. That water would weigh much more than the bottle. The bottle will float. A rock put under water also pushes a lot of water out of the way. That water would weigh less than the rock, so the rock can sink.
Can you explain, why is that some object will sink in the water and why is that some object will float on the water?
ReplyDeleteIt has to do with the contrast in density. Objects that are more dense than water sink. Objects that are less dense than water will float.
